Prairie and Kate Wickham win 2020 Match Team Play

After rescheduling from Jan 11th to Jan 26th, we played our annual Iowa Match team play. Unfortunately conditions were not Ideal as the Ballroom had started to go under construction. Making play interesting. 14 teams represented the Elementary Section and 3 Teams participated in the High School Section. The elementary Section the Dynamic Wizards won with the Couger Killers 2nd and Epic Knights 3rd. The 7-12 section was won by Prairie High ending the dominance of Iowa City's West High who had won the last 8 years. Congrats teams Individual board winners. 1 Anjanaya Rao 2. Julian Nosulli 3. NOTE ON THE WEATHER We recognize that the weather forecast calls for several inches of snow Friday and into Saturday. I want to let everyone know that the tournament will be held regardless of the conditions. The tournament will not be canceled. Chess Publisher Bob Long of Davenport dead at 74

Bob Long was a colorful personality in Iowa Chess History. Bob was found murdered in his home on Tuesday. The suspect was apprehended and confessed to the murder and robbery. Bob was 74. Bob was most famous for his publishing companies Chessco and Thinkers Press and most lately the Chess Buttler. Bob served as the editor of the Iowa Chess News En Passant for a few years. Bob was a connoisseur of books on Magic and Math along with Chess. Bob was most recently working on an update to a Purdy book, CJS Purdy’s Search for Chess Perfection. Tomorrow is the 7th rendition of the Anti Hunger Games, now a holiday tradition. I started a new job and didn't think I was going to be able to do it. But I was able to take Thursday the 2nd of January off and here we are. Registration will be onsite at 09:00am to 9:45am you can email me to pre register and pay on site.
