Congratulations to Valeriy Kosokin for winning the 67th Iowa Open Chess Championship. Valeriy was 4-0 going into the last round and was able to pull out a draw being down a knight to Mr Volokymyr Buranovskyi. Mr Buranovskyi is new to the Iowa Chess Scene and has sure made an impact in his first year tying for second in the Iowa Open along with Iowa favorites Tim McEntee and Robert Reynolds (not pictured). Our first night of USCF rated chess started slow but will build. 4 Players came out for what became a g15d2 double round robin. Next week we are having g/30 d5 quads. And remember the Iowa Open is tomorrow in Ames.
