Well here I am tooting my own horn. It came as quite a shock when I first received the email telling me I had won the award. I had no Idea I was in the running. Here is the paragraph I wrote when accepting the award at the US Open in Middleton Wisconsin
“I love to host Chess Events in extraordinary places. I have had events in a zoo, a brewery, at a funeral home, in parks, city streets, prisons, Huck Finn Island at Disneyworld, a greenhouse, and at Sea on a cruise ship. I feel it brings more energy and enjoyment to the game, and it shows people that chess belongs everywhere.”
I also went on the thank the 4 TD's that helped me along the way. Mark Capron who I didn't even know, but helped me upload my first tournament. James Hodina who taught me how to really use WinTD and scholastic chess. Roger Gotschall who taught me pairing cards, and Brian Yang who taught me about National Events.
I am humbled by the award.
Thank you everyone in Iowa Chess as we continue to share our chess journey.
Eric
