Lee County Fair!!!!!

ree

Joseph Pregon won his 4th or 5th Lee County fair championship in about as many years. He proved dominant over the field. In second was Robert Reynolds and sneaking into third Jacob Vigil. The Lee County Fair has had a long running chess tournament dating back decades and is rumored to be the oldest continuously running event in Iowa. I mean where else can you play chess, then enjoy a ribeye steak sandwich (for cheaper than you can buy an uncooked ribeye steak at HyVee or Fareway) check out the livestock, have your game interrupted by loud cries of a cow mooing because it doesn't want to get onstage. One year the hog calling contest was outside the tournament Hall and instead of that annoying cellphone going off, you heard the sweet sound of owners beckoning their pigs to come home. My favorite year was when my son Barry was into Herpetology and they had an Alligator and Snake wrestler.

A big thanks goes to the Vanwinkle Family (Jesse and Charles pictured) for organizing and hosting this fine event.
