2022 IOWA CLOSED AND CLASS TOURNAMENT UPDATE

The Iowa State Closed Chess Championships will be held on April 9 and 10 at the Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn. The Iowa Class Chess Championships will be held concurrently on April 9 with individual sections for Class Mater/Expert/Class A (combined) through Class E. Over the weekend, IASCA signed a contract with the hotel to host both of these tournaments concurrently at the same location.

Iowa Closed Qualifying Standings were also updated and posted. There are two remaining qualifying tournaments: the Carl Dunn Memorial Tournament in Burlington, February 12 & 13, and the Cedar Rapids Leather Jackets, March 4-6. Each tournament awards 12 qualifying points for first place. So, while the top few spots look solid, there is still plenty of opportunities to pick up enough rating points to qualify in the top 5. Players with top 5 qualifying points will participate in a 6-player round-robin tournament with current Iowa State Champion, Arshaq Saleem. Complete Closed Qualification Rules are maintained on the IASCA website.
