Chess Night at Iowa Children's Museum

Dear Chess Players and Families,

We have a great opportunity next week to show our community how awesome scholastic chess in Iowa is. Next Friday, January 27, during Coral Ridge Mall's Family Free night, a simultaneous exhibition and beginner lessons will be held in the Iowa Children's Museum.

As experienced players, you will be able to be a part of a simultaneous exhibition against Iowa newest Chess Master, Arshaq Saleem, a student at Iowa City West High School. We will also have an instructional event to teach new chess players our wonderful game. You may help by either participating or referring friend or family to this event, Friday, January 27th.

Arshaq Saleem passed the 2200 rating required for National Master title after scoring five wins and three draws (not one loss!) at the 26th North American Open in Las Vegas in December. Like Joseph Wan, also a student at West High, who also recently earned the NM title, Arshaq has been the role model for many young and enthusiastic chess players in the local area. What better way is there to celebrate his success than to come to the Children's Museum and join others to play Arshaq? This simultaneous play is free, but seats are limited. Early registration is encouraged. Please email your desire to participate to Ming Lodh at mengjieh2000@yahoo.com.

Along with the simultaneous exhibition, Iowa Scholastic Director, Jim Hodina, will also be on site to teach chess lessons to beginners. Ready to learn the rules and how the pieces move, this will be the perfect class for those completely new to chess. So don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to introduce your kids to chess, the oldest game in the world. Anticipating a large crowd, lessons will be taught in group format and be conducted at two different times. Lessons are completely free and registration is not required, but do come out early to reserve your seats.
