The Chess Club at the University of Minnesota invites you to play in the 4th Golden Gopher Open! In response to the great turnout last year, we have doubled the projected prize fund from last year to $10,000! Grandmasters Alex Yermolinsky, Ashwin Jayaram, Denes Boros, Fidel Corrales, and Timur Gareyev have all confirmed to play!
The tournament will take place at the St. Paul Student Center: 2017 Buford Ave, St. Paul, MN, 55108. Parking will be available at Lot SC 101 for $4 per day, or the Gortner Ave Ramp for $6 per day. Additionally, street parking may be available in the neighborhoods west of campus.
G/90+30 for Open U1800 and U1400, G/45 D5 for U1000
Format for Open, U1800, U1400 G/90+30 3-day - Friday: 7:30pm; Saturday 12pm, 5:30pm; Sunday: 10am, 3:30pm 2-day - Round 1 at 9:30am on Saturday (G/60d5), merge with 3-day in Round 2 Format for U1000 G/45d5 Saturday: 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm
Open: Prizes based on 50 - 1st $1400 (Fully Guaranteed), 2nd $700, 3rd $500, 4th $400; U2300, U2200, U2100, U2000, U1900 each $400 U1800: Prizes based on 40 - 1st $650, 2nd $325; U1700, U1600, U1500 each $325 U1400: Prizes based on 40- 1st $500, 2nd $250, U1300, U1200, U1100 each $250 U1000: Prizes based on 50 - 1st $300, 2nd $150, 3rd $75; U800, U600, U400 each $150; Top unrated: 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $75, 4th $50 Mixed Doubles: $200 for the top Mixed Doubles team (across all sections)

Hotels A list of hotels near the St. Paul campus can be found at https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/visit/hotel.html. Many of these hotels offer free parking and a shuttle from the hotel to and from campus. Important Information Limit two half-point byes. No half-point byes given in last round. Bring your own sets and clocks, if possible. All class prizes are based on 5 players per class. Unrated players may only win prizes in the U1000 section.
