Valeriy Kosokin and James Neal are co-champions of the Ames Open, held June 11-12 in Ames. Each finished with 4.5/5, giving up a draw only to each other. The 1st and 2nd place prizes were split between them, and on tiebreaks the trophy went home with Kosokin.

The U1900 prize was divided four ways between Tom Gaul, Joel Heinrich of Wisconsin, and the father-and-daughter duo Mohammadreza and Kiana Hajiarbabi of Kansas. The U1700 prize was divided between Milind Jetty and Nebraska resident David Raines.

The event drew a strong field of 27 participants from five states. The tournament was both USCF and FIDE rated. The organizer wishes to thank all participants for coming, Mark Capron for assisting with online registration, and especially Bill Broich for excellent work directing.
